About My Human Design Training

In 1999 my chiropractor charged me $25 and did a 20-minute Human Design “reading” for me. I was really surprised by it. He then referred me to Chetan Parkyn who was a licensed Human Design analyst and I shelled out $200 for a full reading from him. I was very impressed. Okay, actually I was blown away.

About a month later Ra came to San Diego and gave a talk for several hours during which he explained the basics of how a chart worked. Soon after that, I paid another $250 for a “Basic” Human Design class that Chetan decided to teach. I attended his three 8-hour classes in preparation for taking my training as an analyst.

At that time the only analyst training course available in the United States was in Taos, New Mexico. It was 8 hours a day for 7 days. The course was taught by Zeno and her husband Chaitanyo. They were Ra’s first students in the U.S. and in 1993 he signed a contract officially giving them the exclusive rights to the Human Design System here. In 2000 they were the only ones in the U.S. authorized by Ra to teach Human Design and certify someone as an analyst.

Ra had first taken his teaching to Europe and Martin Grassinger, one of his earliest students in Europe, flew over to Taos and took part in training our class. That was a stroke of good luck for me.

I completed that course, passed the test, and received my license in January 2000, making me one of the earliest officially licensed Human Design System analysts in the United States. Next, I had to acquire the software to create charts, a $500 investment I was happy to make.

The investment I made in that certification, including airfare from San Diego, car rental, house rental, meals, and the course itself was a little over $1000.

After I returned to San Diego I continued my studies, going to an 8-hour class once a month for three years with Chetan Parkyn, a brilliant teacher. Over that period he taught in detail about everything available in Human Design at that time.

The 9 centers, 36 channels, 64 gates, and 384 lines. He provided instruction on the 4 types, the 5 definitions, the 6 authorities, the 12 profiles, and the 192 Incarnation crosses. He taught about the role of each planet in Human Design and how to structure a reading. He provided an incredible level of detail about all of it.

My investment for each class was $100 per month for 3 years – a total investment of $3,600.

During those 3 years, I spent at least another $1000 on books and tapes from Ra.

So a grand total over 3 years of somewhere in the neighborhood of $6,000 back in the very early 2000s. Recession has averaged at least 2% a year every year since then so figure 40% extra in today’s money, about $8,400 of investing power.

Formal Study after Education & Training

In 2004 I was contracted to write the “ABC” course for the only online Human Design school in the United States approved by Ra. All of my material was reviewed and approved by Ra.

I wrote about the Mechanics

When I finished that project I understood that for me writing is the best way to learn. So I began to write in earnest. For 2 1/2 years I really got into it and wrote about the Mechanics – how the chart is created, all of the centers, channels, gates, and 384 lines, definitions, types, authorities, and profiles.

It was my intent to publish a book because at that time I hadn’t seen anything comprehensive. Just really, really expensive bits and pieces. There was so very little on the Internet back then.

My Contribution to the HD Movement

Instead of writing a book, I decided that I wanted to make Human Design readings affordable for people who were interested but couldn’t afford $200 for a reading. I was pretty sure I could do it.
